While New York school districts await official guidance from the NYS Education Department on reopening, Mayor de Blasio announced earlier today that public schools in New York City will partially reopen in the fall. Families will have a choice on how they would like their child to learn this coming school year. Instruction will either be blended or fully remote. Blended learning is a mix of in-person and remote learning. Most students will attend school for 2-3 days a week in the fall.
School schedules will be staggered. Determinations will be made on the size of the student population in schools and physical space. Principals will work on what that looks like during the next few weeks and will let parents know in August what days students will physically attend school.
Students with disabilities:
In-person services will be offered to students with IEPs who opt to receive them to the greatest extent possible.
No information on school busing has been released as of now.
Alternative staggering schedules may be available for District 75 programs due to smaller classes.
School-based health and safety precautions will be put in place, such as:
Social distancing
Face masks
Hand sanitizers
Deep nightly cleaning of school buildings
Updates to ventilation systems in school buildings
Calendar:
July 7: All principals provided with scheduling options.
July 7: School budgets released to principals.
July 15: Parent portal opens for families to sign-up for fully remote instruction.
July 16: First virtual Family Information Session.
August 7: Deadline for families to opt for fully-remote instruction and staff to submit medical accommodation.
Also Please Note: Families will be allowed to opt back into in-person instruction on a quarterly basis. Families can opt for fully-remote learning at any time.
